Best of Season 38 ~ Best Male Cast Member: Bill Hader

For the 2nd, and final time, my choice for best male cast member happens to be Bill Hader.  He wrapped up his 8th and final year on SNL pretty well.  He still did a good amount of sketches, though he scaled back a bit on some of his well known characters (No Herb Welch), though we did get a very well done conclusion with his Stefon character, his most popular character.  He ends his 8 years on a high note, leaving before it gets to the point where what he does best starts to get old.  One of the best impressionists on the show, he’ll definitely leave a very large hole to fill as nobody thought that anyone could be as great as Darrell Hammond but I felt as though that Bill came very close.  One joke to make is that since he’s leaving, who will play as the host in game show sketches.  His voice not only in those sketches but in commercial parodies will be missed.  He probably has the best speaking voice in those since the late great Phil Hartman

Runner-Ups: Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan

marvelousbalehead:

I was watching Bill Hader’s first SNL episode yesterday and decided that SNL knew Bill Hader was going to leave when he did. I swear they spent eight years planning it. It all connects, and part of it connects with the Office ending as well. I made a list of how, and it’s kinda confusing, but bear with me.

  • The Office and Bill Hader both make major NBC debuts in 2005.
  • They both also say goodbye in the same year, more specifically, the same week.
  • Steve Carell, superstar of The Office, hosted the season 31 SNL premiere, Bill Hader’s first episode.
  • The musical guest for that episode happened to be Kanye West, who was also the musical guest for the season 38 finale, Hader’s last episode.
  • Stefon’s first appearance was in 2008 during an episode Ben Affleck hosted.
  • Stefon’s last appearance was a very emotional Weekend Update segment during the finale hosted by Ben Affleck.
  • So Ben Affleck was in Stefon’s first and last episodes, and Kanye West was musical guest for Bill Hader’s first and last episodes.
  • Amy Poehler, who was WU anchor during Bill Hader’s first episode also appeared at the Update desk during his last episode. Both episodes also had Hader at the Weekend Update desk.
  • In the season 31 premiere, there is an Anderson Cooper 360 sketch. Seth Meyers, of course, did the impression of Cooper who almost marries Stefon in the season 38 finale. Which is kinda funny because Seth Meyers and Anderson Cooper didn’t like each other in the finale, yet Meyers used to impersonate him. But I digress.
  • Seth Meyers and Stefon finally get married in the season 38 finale because Meyers takes Stefon away from Anderson Cooper WHO SETH MEYERS USED TO IMPERSONATE. Whoa.
  • Finally, in some way, whether an impression or in person, Anderson Cooper is in Bill Hader’s first and last episodes as an SNL cast member.

IT ALL CONNECTS. Please tell me I am not the only person who realized all of this.

“[When Hannah] hit her head for the first time, she had that pause moment where she looks at you and my wife is really good because she’s like, ‘Ohh, yay, it’s okay.’ She hit her head and I’m like, ‘NOOOO!’ And she’s like, ‘Wahhh!’ My wife [said], ‘Give her to me, just give her to me!’ And I was like, ‘Oh no!!’”
